Professional mechanics will tell you that wiping a Snap-On wrench clean has the same calming effect as does meditation with a Zen master. You can feel the precision in a Snap-On’s ratchet handle, and you can see it in the highly polished finish. We particularly like the feel of the square-section handles on Snap-On screwdrivers.

Well, we laid out our demonstrator Snap-On tools inside a Shark Stainless Systems hand-made rolling tool cabinet. Our loaner model is the limited-edition Hot Rod version, which comes either blindingly polished, or in a brushed finish on its 304 stainless steel body. Each time you open and close this handmade tool chest, the drawers slide like the con rods on your Duesenberg. The standard fire extinguisher that comes with the Shark Stainless chest also gets the cool flame paint job. The shark logo is embossed on the lid, and actually serves to stiffen the panel. That’s the kind of stuff we like, ornamental but still with a purpose.

At about $3000, the 41-inch wide Shark tool cabinet runs more than $9 per pound — about the most expensive tool chest we’ve ever seen for its size. The top cabinet has eight smooth-moving ball-bearing half-width drawers that are a full 18-inches deep, and the big bottom cabinet also offers eight drawers.
